Messe Duesseldorf Implements Acopia Networks Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) Solution

Europe's Leading Trade Fair Organization Deploys Intelligent File Virtualization to Simplify File Management, Shorten Backup Windows, and Reduce Storage Costs

Munich, Germany and Lowell, MA - October 10, 2006 - Acopia Networks®, the leader in high-performance, intelligent file virtualization, today announced that German-based, Messe Duesseldorf, the leading international trade fair partner, and leading provider of event-related exhibitor and visitor services, has chosen an Acopia ARX intelligent file virtualization solution to support its Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) strategy.

Messe Duesseldorf has utilized the Acopia systems to transfer 80% of its existing data to lower cost storage without affecting normal business operations, resulting not only in hardware cost savings but also a reduction in maintenance and license fees. Additionally, Acopia's automated tiering capabilities have reduced Messe Duesseldorf's backup time from approximately 14 hours to three hours - an overall reduction of over 75%. By following pre-defined business policies in real-time, the Acopia system now automatically ensures each Messe Duesseldorf data file resides on the most appropriate tier of storage - delivering significant reductions in operating expense and capital outlay.

"Thanks to Acopia, the entire process of migration and consolidation is simple, transparent, and non-disruptive to users," explained Reinhard Frumm, team manager IT-Technology, Messe Duesseldorf. "Since deploying the Acopia ARX systems to automate storage management tasks, we have experienced a dramatic increase in operating efficiency and a substantial decrease in costs."

Before selecting the Acopia solution, Messe Duesseldorf carefully examined available file virtualization solutions from all leading vendors. End-user transparency and non-disruptive operation were key focus areas during the evaluation phase. Scalability for further expansion and reduction of complexity were also key decision factors. Acopia quickly emerged as the solution best meeting these requirements.

"Instead of purchasing expensive Tier 1 storage, we used the Acopia systems to easily and non-disruptively implement SATA storage that costs half as much," added Frumm. "Moreover, we streamlined our backup policies, nearly eliminating our backup windows. Based upon these results, we anticipate that our Acopia investment will pay for itself in well under a year, and deliver compelling ROI for many years into the future."
"Storage is becoming more sophisticated as new exciting functionality is being developed and customers increasingly deploy these to manage their information assets," said Claus Egge, program director of IDC's European Storage Research. "IDC believes in the benefit of virtualizing IT resources and storage is an obvious area to virtualize. Through file virtualization such as Acopia is proposing, customers will benefit from ease of management, the ability to provision storage, and flexible migration of data."

"Messe Duesseldorf's experiences underscore the fact that file storage represents a growing business burden. Globally, enterprises are increasingly turning to intelligent file virtualization to meet these challenges head-on," said Tim Pitcher, vice president of international for Acopia. "We are proud and delighted that Messe Duesseldorf - a leader in its respective field - has joined a burgeoning group of similar leading companies in partnering with Acopia to simplify file storage."
